Mothers Matter

Mothers Matter is a community led project which supports women and families struggling with poor perinatal mental health. We listen, understand, and empower. We look at needs, build community, and tackle isolation. We do this by offering the opportunity to feel safe and heard, through counselling, community home support, wellbeing hubs, providing food bank and nappy bank to the most vulnerable families, providing hot drinks and food as well as listening opportunities in our parenting centre. Our Parenting Centre is a safe and non-judgemental space where women and families can meet people with shared lived experiences.

Our project is nationally innovative and has lessons beyond our project due to our work tackling isolation and loneliness for women and men during pre/ postnatal period- we are taking a strain off the GP & health services - reducing the number of parents seeking medication, counselling & support. Since the cost-of-living crisis, we have seen a huge impact on the financial wellbeing of the local community, increased poverty, with increased need and demand from parents, having an impact on their mental health. Our project supports all of these areas through free mental health support, and physical resources such as food bank, nappy bank and clothes bank.
