Children on the Edge

Children on the Edge exists to help forgotten children who are living on the edge of their societies around the world. For over 27 years they have focussed on children who have been overlooked by governments, larger organisations, the media and the international community.

In partnership with local communities, they work to restore the ingredients of a full childhood. They do this through the creation of safe, child friendly environments that generate hope, life, colour and fun. Rather than seeing children as passive recipients of charity, they resource and support them to be agents of change in their own futures.

Currently Children on the Edge are working in the following areas:

Since the catastrophic rise of ethnic cleansing in Rakhine State, Myanmar in August 2017, they provided humanitarian assistance for over 5000 families. Using their seven years of experience providing low profile education here for 2,700 unregistered refugees, they have now established 75 new Learning Centres for 7,500 newly arrived children in what has become the largest refugee camp in the world.

In Uganda their Child Protection Teams work with local slum communities to create a protective environment for children in danger of exploitation, malnutrition and abuse.

Their Community schools in Bangladesh ensure education and play in a child friendly environment for 900 slum dwelling children who would otherwise have no access to learning.

In Lebanon, they provide education for 500 Syrian refugee children in tent schools, using Syrian teachers who are trained up from within the refugee camps.

In Kachin State, Myanmar, they support Early Childhood Education for 431 children, internally displaced by conflict and living in hard to reach, high altitude refugee settlements.

In Bihar State, India, they work to tackle caste discrimination by creating access to education for over 1000 ‘untouchable’ Dalit children, whilst resourcing the wider community to realise their rights.
